What are some humane ways to kill a rodent?

There are millions of people who have an issue with rats and other rodents getting into their home. No matter what they do to try to deter this from happening, the reality is that a raccoon, squirrel, possum, rat, or mouse can find its way into your house. Whether they gain access through a loose board in the siding, through a hole that appears in the foundation, or simply through the front door that is left open, these animals are quite inventive in figuring out a means to make your home their home.

While some choose the option of trapping these animals and attempting to relocate them in another location, there are those who see that the best solution is to simply terminate this animal. Yes, they could try to do something to give it a chance of survival, but that just opens the door for these rodents to return, and the reality is that their chances of survival after relocation are minimal anyway. This makes it so that the permanent solution may be the reality anyway.

So, what is the best way to kill a rodent? Yes, you could do something like flat out shooting it. That would work well if you are talking about a raccoon or possum. However, that may not be your particular cup of tea. You want something that is humane, but still gets the job done. So what are the humane options for killing a rodent?

The most common choice that you can employ is the use of a poison. Poisons can be quite effective, but you should be aware of something before you decide to use this. If you are leaving out a poison for a raccoon, let’s say, you may be risking your own pet’s health. You can’t be sure if the same enticements that lead the raccoon to injustice poison will not also entice your cat or dog to do the same thing. That may be the last thing you’re looking for.

You also have the concern of what will happen to the animal once it dies. You may not like having to pick up a dead raccoon or a group of dead rats that are all over your yard. That doesn’t sound particularly sanitary to be honest.

However, this is one of the best options in terms of handling your problem in doing it in a way that can be quick and easy. Most poisons react in the animal rather quickly, making it one of the most humane choices you can opt for. The animal dies quickly, and your problem is resolved.

Depending upon the animal you are talking about there were also traps that can do the job. They will act rather humanely as well, considering that death through the trap is virtually always instantaneous. However, this can be quite messy and therefore is an option that many don’t like, because of the cleanup they must employ afterward. What this really tells you is that poison may be the very best option. Read more: Rat Control, Get Rats Out of the Attic, Rat Trapping, Rats in the Ceiling, Rat Feces.
