Do skunks come out during the day?

One of the things that people like about going for long walks during the day is that they do not have to worry about many of the animals that can cause problems for them. A lot of animals that you would come across that can be dangerous, or at least annoying to you like to come out at night. This makes it so you can enjoy a leisurely walk out in the woods without having some terrible critter cross your path.

One that many people do not want to come across are skunks. These are horrific animals that release the most horrific spray when they are startled. Clearly, you want to avoid an animal like this, so you may wonder do skunks come out during the day?

The fact is that skunks are nocturnal animals. This means that they sleep during the day and really only come out in the night time to forage for food and to do whatever business that they need to get done. This allows you to have a safe walk without having to fear that you will come across this beast as you walk along a trail at one o’clock in the afternoon.

There are some that will read this and think that they know that know that they have seen a skunk out in the day. They are asking themselves if this is a nocturnal animal then how can they be out in the day? Are they mistaken?

The fact is that they are night. There will be times when you will see a skunk that is out in the day. If you see this then your immediate reaction needs to be to run away from this critter as fast as you can. The truth is that the only reason that the skunk comes out in the day is if it is really ill. This means that it has rabies or some other disease to such an extent that it can no longer logically let its instincts kick in and is out of control.

Why is this so dangerous? When they are sick it becomes quite likely that they will attack anything that gets in its path. This means that if it comes across you it will very likely attack you. If it has rabies the last thing you want is a rabid skunk chasing after you. It can easily infect you and you can get sick.

If you know anything about rabies you know that this is fatal to humans if not treated right away, and the treatment is brutal. If you come across a skunk in the daytime you need to get away as quickly as you can to avoid any issues that may challenge or endanger your health. Read more: Skunk Control, how to kill skunks.
