How to use one-way exclusion funnels to remove opossums without trapping them

Having an opossum in your home is never something that you want. These animals can be quite nasty and messy, and the diseases and parasites that they leave behind can be dangerous to you, your family, and your pets. This is why it is so important to get rid of them as quickly as possible.

The problem for many people is that they don’t want to try to trap and remove the animal. It can be dangerous to trap them and so they want to avoid this all together. Instead, they just want them out of the house and then they will be happy. This is why the one-way exclusion funnel makes a lot of sense.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this device. This is a funnel like device that you put on the outside of your home. It is a lot bigger on one end than on the other, with the smaller end having an opening with a door like device on it. The door will swing outward to get out if an animal is in the funnel, but from the outside of the device it cannot be opened. This is the key.

What you do is to attach the funnel to the outside of your home, with the larger end attached securely to the outside of the house. Next, you want to do something that will scare the animal so that it will run for the opening that is using to gain access into your home. This is where you funnel must be attached. They will instinctually run for that opening, and so your funnel must be placed there.

Put some speakers and a large light in the attic and when it is getting to be dusk, you want to turn both on. The load noise and bright lights will scare the possum and it will run for the opening. As it heads down the funnel it will push that little trap door open and be out of your home. By the way that this is designed, it is unable to regain access this way, and so it is trapped outside.

Wait until it is daylight, then pull the funnel off and fix the hole or crack where the animal was gaining access. That should solve your issue.

Of course, you now have to do a lot of cleanup where the animal was living. These can be very messy animals and so you will have to get a quality cleaner to do the job or hire a service. Either way, you really need to make sure that there are no remnants of the opossum’s stay at your home or you will have a potential health hazard in your house.
